Capsule Challenge Co-Director
(November 2019 - July 2020)

TechTogether is seeking a motivated and self-driven hackathon organizer to represent TechTogether as the Challenge Co-Director of Capsule.

Capsule 2020 is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to break the Guinness World Record for the largest civic hackathon in the world focused on the climate crisis. The event will bring together 4,000 brilliant minds from across industries and universities to develop innovative solutions for challenges at the intersection of the environment. Candidates must read through the following and meet the requirements + qualifications. Candidate must be committed through July 2020.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must be able to manage remote teams and have prior leadership experience
  • Self-driven and proactive work ethic
  • Empathetic team player
  • Experience with hackathon planning is a plus
  • Passion for solving the climate crisis and embracing the challenge of a world record
  • Availability of about 10 hours a week to dedicate to Capsule
  • This role REQUIRES some availability during the workday (9-5 pm) in order to effectively communicate with Challenge Partner organizations

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Incorporate themes of inclusivity, intersectionality, and gender equity into Capsule in accordance with TechTogether’s mission
  • Recruit Challenge Partners under the 6 challenges at their intersections with the environment (Education, Art, Food, Energy, Cities, and Health)
  • Work with the Innovation Pipeline, Community Partners, and Challenge Partners to build out the hacker resource pool (open datasets, webinars, how-tos, etc.) from Nov./Dec. until May 4th Review Project Submissions with the Challenge Partners and Capsule Planning Committee (Jan. 27th - May 4th)
  • Share ideas on audience engagement, especially for university and high school students, with the planning committee
  • Organize a workshop or panel at Capsule for the TechTogether community

Compensation

  • $750 stipend paid by June 2020
